Admissions

Broward Admissions

New Students

BCE/BC gives students the opportunity to pursue a U.S. college education in Ecuador. Admission is guaranteed to all students who have earned a standard high school diploma in Ecuador or in any other country and have completed mandatory admissions examination.

How to Apply
  1. You should start the admissions process at least 10 days before you expect to begin studying at BCE.
  2. You must present a valid original of your high school and/or college/university transcript(s) from all institutions you have attended.
  3. You must pay a one-time, non-refundable application of $120.00 for international students. This is a records processing fee and will not be refunded if you do not enroll.
  4. You must submit a completed admissions application form to the admissions office in Guayaquil or in Quito. Applications can be obtained at these offices or online at http://www.broward.edu/stuserv/forms/reg-38.pdf
  5. If you have a U.S. Social Security Number (SSN), U.S. federal law requires that you furnish this number with your application. International students in Ecuador will be given a unique student number upon registration. The U.S. SSN must be included on all documents filed by the institution with the Internal Revenue Service.
  6. Students with transcripts from a university outside the United States must submit their transcripts with a commercial evaluation and translation in English. BCE/BCC uses Josef Silny & Associates, Inc. in Miami. Check www.jsilny.com for information and talk to the admissions officer at BCE.
  7. If the applicant is transferring from a U.S. university, a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 is required.
  8. International Baccalaureate (IB) credits are accepted at Broward College. Students have saved up to 29 college level credits by transferring their IB credits from high school.

Returning and Transfer Students

Returning Students:

Returning students who have not attended BC for two or more semesters must submit a Re-Entry Application to update personal information. If the returning student has attended another institution in the interim period, an official transcript must be submitted from that college or university with the Re-Entry Application. The applicant must be in good academic standing at the last college attended at the time of re-entry. There is no fee for the Re-Entry Application.

Transfer Students:

Transfer Students are students who have previously attended another college or university and wish to continue their education at BCC. Transfer students must provide transcripts from all previously attended colleges or universities. Students with transcripts from a university outside the United States must submit their transcripts with a commercial evaluation and translation in English. BC uses Josef Silny & Associates, Inc. in Miami. Check www.jsilny.com for information and talk to the admissions officer at BCE.

Placement Exams

Effective March 2011, Broward College transitioned to the Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT), Florida's new college placement test, as the primary placement mechanism. The PERT will replace the ACCUPLACER (CPT) battery and will be used for initial placement and retesting of all students seeking entry to Broward College or replacement in preparatory level courses.

The PERT identifies appropriate course placement (developmental education through college credit) in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. There are 30 questions per placement subtest, and the scaled scores range from 50-150.

Frequently asked questions

  1. What is a College?
A college offers students the opportunity to complete up to two years of a four year university degree before transferring.  At BC in Ecuador, students typically earn their Associate’s degrees and then transfer anywhere they choose without the restrictions of special "agreements" with any particular university.
  2. What specializations (majors) are offered at BC in Ecuador?
The most common question from potential Ecuadorian students is "what specializations does Broward offer?" The answer is "all of them" because in U.S. colleges and universities, students must first complete approximately 4 semesters (45 to 60 credits) of general education requirements before going on to "specialize" in a particular academic discipline in their third and fourth year of university. BCE students typically do not select a major until they transfer for their third year in college or university.
  3. How much does it cost per school year in Ecuador?
At BC in Ecuador you can earn two years of college credit and an Associate’s degree for less than $10,000. Compare this to $30,000 to $40,000 for the same number of credits in the United States.
  4. Where can I transfer after finishing my Associate’s degree in Ecuador?
You can transfer to any college or university of YOUR CHOICE from BC in Ecuador.
  5. What can I do to be better prepared for a U.S. college?
Simple:  read, read, read. The most difficult task in college is to get used to the vast amount of reading required for every course - and remember, everything is in English. Your ability to read and write clearly and concisely in English are the most valuable skills you can improve upon.
  6. I have studied at a local university. Can I transfer to BC in Ecuador?
Yes, but before being accepted, the courses on your transcript must first be evaluated, course by course, in order to determine if they are equivalent to the U.S. college courses. Evaluations are done by the J. Silny Company in Miami. See http://www.jsilny.com for more information.
